RABBIT-HOLE GALLERY PRESENTS:
MURKY MENAGERIE -
{Paintings of a Morose & Unsociable Nature}
By Angie Mason
OPENING SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 13th, 2008 7pm-11pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Atlanta, GA (July 25th, 2008) - Rabbit-Hole Gallery is pleased to present:
Murky Menagerie - Paintings of a Morose & Unsociable Nature
A solo exhibition featuring new works by Angie Mason
Opening on September 13th,2008.
For the artist’s first show at the gallery, she has created a collection of 23 works
including primarily paintings on canvas as well as drawings and sculptures
she calls visual objects. Murky Menagerie - Paintings of a Morose & Unsociable Nature
will be Angie's first solo show in Atlanta GA. ARTIST STATEMENT:
You know in life those tragic moments that are so full of comedy, misguided attempts gone awry, good intentions with terrible outcomes. You know that feeling, the awareness of something being unhealthy yet ingesting it anyhow with disregard for any later consequences. This is a taste of some of what you will find within this collection of works. It is a flawed carnival of creatures that are misplaced, displaced and confused within these painted worlds. These are Moments that rise up from the darkness in life which we can all at some time or another relate to. These are the rock bottom babies born out of wrong doings and hard times. These are vicious poison snake biters we all battle in life. These are the poison mushroom fungi that grow on us as the blown out wishes from weeds entangle our lives. Rising from the murk a swamp queen dream all full of fungus yet she uses the poison, the illness in life to gain strength to keep on living. These are the golden carrot dreamers that hung for too long. These are the caged moon catchers trying to control things beyond their control. These are the self poisoned bloated beasties, These are the lost, the used and the jealous moody bruised tired souls. These are paintings of a morose & unsociable nature and with that I give you A MURKY MENAGERIE all new works by Angie Mason. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Angie Mason (b.1973) received a BFA from Parsons School of Design in NYC,NY in 1997. Since then, she has exhibited her artwork nationally and internationally in both Solo and group exhibits in such places as New York, Los Angeles, Cannes, Berlin and London. She visually explores the twisted combinations of opposites through the creation of slightly off characters using them as a way to paint truths about being human. Often times in the work one finds creatures who are facing their demons or are in fact the demon themselves. There is a balance of light and dark that intermingle in her work creating a visual playground bringing to life quirky characters that are beautifully rendered yet with a painterly hand gives them an innocent raw touch.
A chaotic disjointed upbringing helped form her visual imagination and sensibilities at an early age. Angie’s works are strong in color and heavy in character concepts. Various influences are found in her work ranging from such things as nature, relationships, dreams, memories, failure and health.
Within these painted worlds, one finds a realm dark and wonderful where Angie’s saturnine moody bruised soul creatures exist with their touching sad yet hysterical scenarios. Mason’s works are both horrific and humorous, yet speaks of what it means to be human. Her melancholy menagerie of characters and worlds are a funny, whimsical, dark and tragic view at the wonderful mess of life. The Rabbit-Hole Gallery

[Oct. 4th, 2007|04:29 pm] |
Hello All,
I just thought I would pass this info for a show I am a part of. These very informal salon style shows put on by the Guild Of the Black Eagle are really loads of fun and are more like art parties than a gallery exhibition so if you happen to be in the neighborhood stop by. ^___^
-Angie
This Saturday October 6th is The third installment of The Guild of The Black Eagle salon exhibition. These shows are a survey of new works by some of the finest fresh talents working today. There are no restrictions to boarders or styles. We have East and west coast and in between. The work is for sale but this is not the motive to the show. We take no commission from the artist which gives the collector a chance to get work for slightly less than normal. So please come out to see this rare and special show. Guild Of the Black Eagle is a collective of Galleries and Artists working together to present shows in a more informal salon style gallery setting to promote and foster arts :) The Galleries in the Guild are: STRYCHNIN GALLERY, McCaig-Welles Gallery and Capla Kesting Fine Art Gallery. | ANGIE MASON SOLO SHOW: LIFE SORE SPORES at STRYCHNIN GALLERY BERLIN July 13 2007 |
[Jun. 3rd, 2007|09:40 pm] |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:ARTIST STATEMENT LIFE SORE SPORES - A Solo Exhibition of New Works By ANGIE MASON Opens This Summer JULY 13th 2007 at STRYCHNIN GALLERY - BERLIN, Germany OPENING RECEPTION: Friday the 13th of July 2007 7-11pm Show Runs through August. *Special Guest Artist Christina Graf will be showing some of her lovely boxed worlds upon my request of having her be apart of my show.
All of us face many negative forces in life which seem to linger on us like fungal growths constantly emitting spores attaching themselves to our well being and dragging us down as we battle against time which will devour all of us in the end. It's a universal truth that we all battle violence and negativity in our lives at times, its part of the life cycle of a slow or fast decomposition depending on how well you can fight this war to live. These Life Sore Spores that pollute our minds and infect our bodies are in a constant battle against our positive energy.
Those heart worm menaces and parasitic rot seeping under our skin dividing again and again creating new problems forcing us to battle against them constantly as growths rise up. They are the sickness, sadness and ugliness we face in life. This is the human war we all battle against in life, attacked at every waking and sleeping moment of our existence we are all soldiers battling these demons that thrive on our demise.
Life sore spores are the toxic mind molecules that can spread within us taking control of our lives and destroy us. Presented here are my reflections on those nagging aching parts in life that can eat away at our core and how one copes with such pressures. How does one maintain beauty and grace during such chaotic brain game times. Do we allow for colony collapse or do we keeping fighting standing strong and proud. This body of work is an emotional examination, retaliation and reaction to the turmoil that is caused by the Life Sore Spores.

| LaLa the Lamb - A Day at the office.... |
[Apr. 4th, 2006|10:32 pm] |
I am La La the Lamb I work in an office as an artist

Sometimes I draw for work....

I feel lucky getting to draw for my job...

I also work on the computer making designs and visual stuff...

SOmetimes I like to listen to music for inspiration or just to take my mind off work ^___^

I get to talk to other artists and tell them what to draw which if fun ...I'm a bossy little lamb!

I like to take lots of tea breaks...

I like to make a nice big hot cup of tea...

a spot of milk makes it just right on a cold cloudy day.

I keep lots of plants around me cause when I am inside I miss being outside...

Sometimes I feel like I work too hard and wonder when I will ever leave....

In the end working hard is ok since I have good friends to keep me company!

I have to research and talk to people I know who have lived/gone there to see what off the beaten path kind of stuff I can find there plus any neat places to stay...etc. etc. Nice to daydream about far off trips and angry monkeys on a SnoweyRainSickle day like today. |

Feels like spring today...which makes me just want to play and do stuff for myself. Last night I was cleaning up my studio in between painting and again went through some of my old sketch books and thought to post some.
So with spring on the mind new stuff to think about like before the end of this year I am going to go through a major site redesign to organize and present my work better. It's always a hard thing moving forward with that kind of change when the site has been so good to me and I adore it ... it's just time to freshen up and reorganize my work and streamline things, so that is one of my new goals of course after all my new paintings are done and ready to go online.^___^

Now I have to go to my studio and stretch some mini canvas's for an upcoming show in June at the Toyroom gallery. Oh and last night was my opening at Gallery 1988.... too bad I couldn't be there! Darn east coast west coast distance. I am hoping to get some shots of the show ((cross my fingers )) from the gallery owners Jensen and Katie who seem super nice over email/phone ^___^ So i shall see. Tis all for now. |

Pumpkins are popping up all over the place! I can't wait to carve up my very own frightening vision. Also I am looking very forward to visiting a haunted house or two. The Halloween season is in the air and I am a happy pumpkin head all orange haired and full of candy. Tis the season for my black doll eye contacts :) Now the big question is what to be this year. hmmmmm. |

OK.... SO here are some shots of my studio where I make all my art work including illustrations for work and my fine art paintings and anything in between.... notice the white kitty popping up in certain shots :) Also notice how I dont take care of my desk and draw all over it. I would make a terrible mom encouraging her kids to draw on their furniture. Yup this is the magic lab where dreams are born.

Autumn...It's a time that makes me nostalgic with its breezy luke warm wind gusts and its chaotic dances of leaves swarming about my head. It's a time that brings feelings of happiness and just overall satisfaction with being alive. I remember so many good things always happening in the fall since I was a kid with friends I made to meeting Lyle to just having a stupid fun time with people I loved and love. I also love the fall with its crisp sweater days and overcast grays hanging over with sun filtering through spilling over onto the vibrant foliage. I love the smell of the earth dying. It makes me happy to be alive and realize how everything is a process and we and all things has an autumn. It's a time to reflect and to take in and appreciate so many things. I am happy autumn has arrived, this frenzied headed leaf girl is ready to dance in the winds and fall to the ground. |
